Hello and welcome to ARTIOS, the culmination of my lifelong dedication to craftsmanship and perfection. My name is Michael Kranz, and I am the founder and operator of ARTIOS, based in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Art/Studio with an emphasis in sculpture from the University of Kentucky. I further honed my skills through an apprenticeship in furniture design and woodworking with Ian Kirby at Kirby Studios in Bennington, Vermont. Before founding Artios, Inc., I gained valuable experience working for five years at Marshall/James, Inc., a high-end furniture company. In the autumn of 1989, I embarked on my own journey and founded ARTIOS.
The name ARTIOS, derived from the Greek word meaning "perfect, perfectly fitted or fully equipped," encapsulates the ethos behind each project I undertake. I am a perfectionist at heart, pushing the boundaries of my materials and my own abilities to achieve excellence. While others may marvel at my work, I am often my harshest critic, constantly striving to improve and refine my craft.
Within my portfolio, you will find four distinct facets:
Custom Millwork & Cabinetry:
From kitchens to built-ins, I have collaborated with esteemed companies like Wolfe Homes and Cabinet Concepts of Greensboro to bring visions to life. No challenge is too daunting, as I embrace each opportunity to innovate and exceed expectations.
Furniture:
During the early years, I have had the privilege of manufacturing timeless pieces for Southampton Furniture and Chelsea House, among others. While many of these pieces draw inspiration from 19th-century styles, each bears the hallmark of meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Jewelry Boxes:
For more than four decades, I have found joy in designing and crafting jewelry boxes. Most of my work is a collaboration but my jewelry boxes are all me. You can explore my collection on artios.etsy.com. There you will find what is currently available and past offerings.
Safes:
I have also lent my expertise to the realm of safes, outfitting them for individuals and collaborating with local companies like Southern Safes and Vaults. If you seek to transform your safe into something befitting of its contents I am eager to be of service.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about ARTIOS and the zeal that drives my work. Whether you're in search of custom cabinetry, heirloom-quality furniture, or a one-of-a-kind jewelry box, I am here to turn your dreams into reality.
